What is Rehabilitation?
Rehab services can provide an important part of a complete recovery from
many conditions. Physical Therapy is just that, physical treatment
of your injury or condition that has decreased your ability to function
in your normal lifestyle. Occupational and Physical therapies can help
to restore your strength and range of motion to allow you to resume
your routines.
Conditions that cause decrease in range of motion
and function are many. Injuries are at the top of the list:
- Motor Vehical Accidents
- Work related injuries
- Recreational injuries
- Mishaps around the house
Other conditions can occur without cause:
- Tension headaches
- Low Back pain
- Fibromyalgia
- Shoulder impingement
- Joint wear and tear
Also general conditions of aging can benefit from Rehab services:
- Stroke
- Osteoporosis
- Neuromuscular disorders such as MS, Parkinson's
PT and OT can evaluate any of these conditions and others and determine
if there is a program to help you.
How do I make an appointment?
Generally your physicians will recommend you attend PT or OT and will
give you a referral or prescription for services. Then you call the
office and set up an initial appointment. Our policy has been to make
every effort to schedule your appointments with 48 hours of your initial
call to our office.
Will insurance cover my services?
Rehab services are recognized as necessary medical procedures and are
therefore covered by most insurance companies. Our insurance dept.
will obtain this information for you when you call for your appointment.
In Oregon the state law allows for services for PT to be provided by
certified PT without Dr referral. Some insurance will cover this, and
some will not. This can be clarified when you call.
What can I expect on my first appointment?
Please plan to come in 15 minutes early. This will allow for the necessary
paperwork to be completed expediting billing for your treatments.
Then you will be seen by a licensed therapist who will be asking several
questions about your history of the condition, pain rating, your goals
for treatment and outline a plan of care. Depending on the time it takes
to obtain all necessary information your actual treatment may begin on
your first visit. Copies of your x-ray/MRI or other reports are helpful.
Most Dr offices do not send these to us unless you request this. If necessary,
we will ask you to sign a medical release so we can obtain this information.
How often will I need Physical Therapy / Occupational
Therapy?
This will depend on your diagnosis and the referral from your Dr. and
the limits set by your insurance plan. Generally 2 to 3 times/week
for 6wks is accepted. Monthly re-evaluations are done to determine
if the plan of care is meeting the goals established for your treatment.
Will the same therapist see me each time?
You will always be treated by a licensed therapist or licensed PT assistant,
as required by the state of Oregon. As much as possible, you will continue
with the therapist you first were evaluated by. Our PTAs are very competent
to work closely with the PTs and often will assume the follow up care,
but again; always in close contact with the primary Therapist. PT
aides are available to help with the extras that make your time in
our office
more comfortable.
What are my options when I have completed my therapy?
With our new expanded facility, we are now able to offer the opportunity
for you to continue using our equipment if you want to sign up for
membership in our Graduate Program. Many patients in the past have
wanted to continue to use the equipment they are familiar with. Other
benefits include having contact with the therapist to help you continue
to advance your fitness level with fear of overdoing.
